<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical information reader, capable of attaining both the thinning of a protective plate and improvement in maintenance properties. <P>SOLUTION: A bar-code reader 1 comprises a light receiving optical system for receiving reflected light from optical information, a case 3 having a reading port 5, a fixing member 60 disposed between the reading port 5 and the receiving optical system, and the protective plate 70 fixed to the reading port 5 side of the fixing member 60.
