PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation angle detector used mainly for a rotation angle detection in steering of a car and the like, which has a simple structure and can surely detect a rotation angle. SOLUTION: An auxiliary detecting member 10 is engaged with a rotating body 1 on a position symmetrical with a first detecting member 2, and an auxiliary detecting means is disposed in order to detect a rotation of the auxiliary detecting member 10, and a detection signal from the auxiliary detecting means is received by a control means 17. Since the auxiliary detecting member 10 engaged on the position symmetrical with the first detecting member 2 is rotated along with the rotating body 1, and the rotation of the auxiliary detecting member 10 is detected even in a period from starting of the rotation of the rotating body 1 to starting of the rotation of the first detecting member 2, the rotation angle detector having the simple structure can be obtained which can surely detect the rotation angle without any error even just after the rotation of the steering.
