PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing bulky paper improving bulking effects while keeping strength of paper (in particular, inner strength), with a reduced addition amount of a bulking agent. SOLUTION: The method for producing bulky paper in which paper making is carried out after adding a bulking agent (1) containing a fatty acid modified polyamide resin (A) containing a tertiary amido group and a tertiary amino group obtained by reacting a polyamine compound (a1) containing a secondary amino group, a mono carboxylic acid compound (a2) and a compound containing a glycidyl group (a3), and a paper strengthening agent (2) containing amphoteric polyacrylamide (B) to a paper stock (3) is characterized in that the paper strengthening agent (2) has at least 50 ml of the difference between Canadian standard freeness (ml) of paper stock (3) containing a paper strengthening agent (2) and the Canadian standard freeness (ml) of paper stock (3) without containing the paper strengthening agent (2).
