The aim of the present invention is to propose a sheet metal cage for a self-aligning roller thrust bearing and a method for the design thereof, wherein it can be cost-effectively produced and has improved application characteristics. To this end, a sheet metal cage (1) for a self-aligning roller thrust bearing or cage bowl as an intermediate product for the sheet metal cage is proposed, comprising a base ring (2) and a cover ring (3) and comprising a plurality of connecting webs (4), each of said connecting webs being integrally connected to the base ring (2) and the cover ring (3), and separated by windows (5) for accommodating spherical rollers, wherein the radially outer upper sides of the connecting webs (4) are formed unbent and/or straight in the connecting direction between the base ring and cover ring.
