The invention relates to a method for the storage of inventory goods (110 to 140) in a storage rack (10) comprising a plurality of rack units (20, 40 ) providing a plurality of storage spaces for the inventory goods (110 to 14 0). The storage rack (10) comprises a transport shaft (60) in which a transp ort device (80) is movable in order to transport the inventory goods (110 to 140) between a service opening (30) and a storage location. A first rack un it (20) comprises the service opening (30) and a second rack unit (40) is sp aced from the first rack unit (20) by the transport shaft (60). In the metho d, a first inventory item (110) is conveyed to a buffer region (50) of a rac k unit (20, 40) by the transport device (80) for intermediate storage. A sec ond inventory item (120) is supplied via the service opening (30) of the tra nsport device (80). The second inventory item (120) is conveyed into the buf fer region (50) by the transport device (80). Additionally, the first invent ory item (110) is supplied to the service opening (30) by means of the trans port device (80), and the second inventory item (120) is supplied to a prede termined storage location by means of the transport device (80).
