<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable even a TN (Twist Nematic) type liquid crystal display panel, which uses a plastic substrate, to obtain satisfactory contrast of display by minimizing the influence of retardation of the plastic substrate. <P>SOLUTION: In the TN type liquid crystal display panel of a normally black mode wherein a TN liquid crystal layer is interposed between a pair of plastic substrates 13 and 14 having transparent electrodes formed on their facing inner surfaces and polarizing plates 11 and 12 are disposed on the outer sides of the respective plastic substrates 13 and 14 so that absorption axes or transmission axes thereof are made parallel to each other, a retardation plate 15 having ≤30 nm retardation value is disposed between the polarizing plate 12 in which light is made incident of the polarizing plates 11 and 12 and the plastic substrate 14 adjacent thereto so that an angle θ formed by the absorption axis 12a of the polarizing plate 12 and a delay phase axis 15a of the retardation plate 15 is in the range of 0°<θ≤30° or 60°≤θ<90°. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
