PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image forming apparatus depending on combination of a magnetic brush injection electrifying system and an amorphous silicon photoreceptor, where the adhesion of magnetic particles to the photoreceptor is lessened. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier 1 driven to be rotated; an electrifying device 2 electrifying the image carrier by making an electrifying member abut on the image carrier and applying electrifying bias to the electrifying member; a potential detection means 50 measuring the surface potential of the electrified image carrier; and a control means 100, and it forms an image on a recording medium P. The image carrier is the amorphous silicon photoreceptor having a photoreceptive layer formed of amorphous substance principally composed of silicon atoms, and the electrifying member is a magnetic brush electrifying member having magnetic particles and a rotating body which magnetically restricts the magnetic particles. The control means has control sequence that image carrier stop time voltage calculated from an output value of the potential detection means is continued to be applied to the electrifying member until the rotation of the image carrier stops when performing image formation finishing operation.
