The invention relates to an automatic modular device that defines a high structure at the back of an automotive vehicle or that can be compacted behind the front seats. The invention relates to a transport and protection device having a structure that can be modulated in order to define a structure in which all the members are connected so as to define a cinematic chain so that it can be modulated by a simple pressure, and in which the upper frame absorbs the effects of the energy released by the load upon a head collision, and that can be vertically and horizontally folded behind the front seats in order to form a protection for the passenger compartment. The structure includes a central stand (14) capable of oscillating (3) until it bears against rear articulated (4) holders (18) by unfolding the upper frame (10) bearing (23) on itself and on a fixed holder (7) on which it can slide and oscillate (13). The upper frame (10) is capable of horizontal translation on the holders (7, 14) when in slides in platens (27) intersecting protrusions (38) of the upper frame having a lower resistance than the other members of the device. The device of the invention is particularly intended for enhancing the versatility of estate and pick-up vehicles.
