An apparatus and a method for reproducing contents in a PVR(Personal Video Recorder) are provided to receive application, contents, and a PVR control message transmitted from a digital broadcasting transmitting system and reproduce the contents in a dialogue type according to a request of a user by the input of a key, thereby enabling the user to use the contents variously. An apparatus for reproducing contents in a PVR(24) comprises a receiving unit(26), a storage unit(30), a reproduction unit(28), a control unit(36), a key input unit(32), and a remote control signal receiving unit(34). The receiving unit receives application, contents, and a PVR control message provided through a specific channel. The reproduction unit reproduces the contents provided from the receiving unit. The storage unit stores the contents provided from the reproduction unit and provides a previously stored specific contents to the reproduction unit. The control unit loads and operates the application, receives the PVR control message from the receiving unit, connects the PVR control message to the application, and controls the operation of the storage unit and the reproduction unit in a user dialogue type according to the application. The control unit makes the contents pose at a point of time when the PVR control message is received through the receiving unit and controls the reproduction unit based on the application according to a reproduction command by the input of a key to reproduce the contents.
