PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a square steel pipe column for inexpensively providing the whole, particularly advantageous to the square steel pipe column in a small and lightweight steel frame structure, and welding (connecting) a beam material to a short size square steel pipe in a state of aligning an outside surface of the beam material with an outside surface of the short size square steel pipe. SOLUTION: This square steel pipe column 10 is constituted by welding and joining (16, and 17) long size square steel pipes 11 and 15 and the short size square steel pipe 12 in a state of mutually opposing end parts. The short size square steel pipe 12 is constituted by being welded and joined (14) by arranging four plate-like bodies 12A and 12B in a square cylindrical shape, and is formed in the plate thickness T thicker than the plate thickness (t and Tt) of the long size square steel pipes 11 and 15. The short size square steel pipe composed of the thick plate thickness is easily provided by being welded and joined by arranging the four plate-like bodies in the square cylindrical shape. In the short size square steel pipe, since an outer peripheral curved surface is not formed by forming the respective corners in a right-angled shape, welding (connection) of the beam material to the outside surface of the short size square steel pipe, can be performed in a state of aligning the outside surface of the beam material with the outside surface of the short size square steel pipe.
