PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the service life of a rolling bearing in the case of use in environments in which deterioration of lubrication conditions is liable to occur due to the mixing-in of foreign matter, such as metal burr, and muddy water. SOLUTION: Chromium content in steel forming a raceway is made higher than usual, and an Ni-Mn nitride is allowed to exist within a specific range in the surface layer part of a rolling contact surface of a rolling element. Moreover, a difference in the amount of retained austenite between the contact surface of the raceway and that of the rolling element is set to values within a specific range.
