PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating material excellent in incombustibility, heat resistance, insulation properties, and the like, wherein the coating material further has a humidity control effect, can remove a toxic substance, and is not peeled from a wall surface or the like due to generation of cracks even if a nail, a screw, or the like is driven into the coating material. SOLUTION: The coating material comprises a composition comprising 10-50 pts.wt. of diatomaceous earth, 3-10 pts.wt. of zeolite, 10-40 pts.wt. of clay, 10-50 pts.wt. of perlite, and 1-5 pts.wt. of a fibrous material such a carbon fiber and rock wool. The composition is mixed with an aqueous solution containing 5-10 pts.wt. of an alkaline silicate compound and applied on a wall surface 1 or the like with a trowel, a spray, or the like.
