PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly perform paper alignment by correcting a pulse of a motor for driving a movable fence by detecting step out. SOLUTION: This sheet aligning device is provided with a paper aligning means for receiving paper as a processing target and making the movable fence abut on an end part of the paper by driving the stepping motor 110 to align the paper. The sheet aligning device is further provided with a step out detecting part 116 for detecting the step out during driving of the stepping motor 110 and with a control part 101 for correcting and controlling a drive pulse of the stepping motor 110 when step out is detected by the step out detecting part 116.
