A light emitting device having its light emitting section constructed of organic EL element (10), which light emitting device comprises, for inhibiting the deterioration phenomenon of the light emitting device, a sealing structure obtained by forming second insulating film (6) on second electrode (5) so as to cover the outermost peripheral portion (E3) of first insulating film (3), forming organic material layer (7) on the second insulating film (6) so as to cover the outermost peripheral portion (E3) of the first insulating film (3), forming inorganic barrier layer (8) on the organic material layer (7) so as to cover the outermost peripheral portion (E3) of the first insulating film (3) and bonding sealing member (10) to substrate (1) by means of adhesive layer (9) covering all of the second insulating film (6), organic material layer (7) and inorganic barrier layer (8).
