1,100,984. Ring lasers. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. 17 Nov., 1966 [25 Nov., 1965], No. 51539/66. Heading H1C. In a ring laser gyrometer, a non-zero beat frequency is generated in the absence of rotation by making use of the discovery that in a gas laser excited with a direct current the refractive index of the gas is different for waves travelling in opposite directions. As shown, a D.C. source 1 supplies, through a current regulating device 2, a direct voltage to the laser 10. The beat frequency is detected by a detector 17 and measured by a frequency meter 20. It is stated that the extent of the zero shift depends on the intensity of the current. Two, three or four laser tubes may be provided. |
