摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery capable of achieving high safety, high in capacity, and excelling in electric characteristics such as a load characteristic and cycle life. <P>SOLUTION: This active material for this nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery contains a lithium-containing transition metal oxide containing nickel and manganese, and having a closest packing structure of oxygen. In the active material, an atom ratio M<SB>Li</SB>/M<SB>T</SB>of the number M<SB>Li</SB>of moles of lithium to the number M<SB>t</SB>of moles of the transition metal is larger than 1.0; the lithium-containing transition metal oxide has a crystalline structure belonging to hexagonal crystal; the X-ray diffraction image of the crystalline structure has a peak P<SB>003</SB>belonging to the (003) plane and a peak P<SB>104</SB>belonging to the (104) plane; the integral intensity ratio I<SB>003</SB>/I<SB>104</SB>of the peak P<SB>003</SB>to the peak P<SB>104</SB>reversibly changes in a region in the range of 0.7-1.5; and the change of the integral intensity ratio is linear and continuous. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
