PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a private branch exchange system which easily recognizes what telephone set rings even when calls are simultaneously terminated to a plurality of telephone sets. SOLUTION: The telephone exchange relays an incoming call to a telephone terminal with a ring pattern specification signal for specifying a ring pattern of the ring for notifying arrival of the incoming call, detects the currently specified number of telephone terminals by every ring pattern for a telephone terminal at a ringing state, extracts ring patterns of the comparatively few currently specified number of telephone terminals among the detected currently specified numbers according to arrival of a new incoming call, assigns the ring patterns to a telephone terminal for calling of the incoming call and generates ring tone pattern specification signals for specifying the assigned ring tone pattern by every telephone terminal.
