A dental implant having a surface made of a ceramic material is provided to obtain high osseointegration capacity. A dental implant having a surface made of a ceramic material has a surface shape defined by a core peak-to-valley height Sk of less than 1mum. The skewness Ssk of the shape is less than 0. The mean grain size of the ceramic material is in a range of 0.1 to 0.6 mum. The ceramic material includes zirconia. The ceramic material is zirconia stabilized with yttrium oxide. The composition of the zirconia stabilized with yttrium oxide comprises 4.5-5.5 weight% of Y2O3 and less than 5 weight% of HfO2. The total amount of ZrO2, Y2O3 and HfO2 is more than 99.0 weight%.
