PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a face detection device for providing a desired detection result according to the purpose. SOLUTION: The device detects a plurality of faces of different sizes included in an input image while changing the size of faces to be detected stepwise, sets size of faces to be first or last detected out of a plurality of faces having different sizes, then sets sizes of faces stepwise in order from the face first detected to the face last detected, and detects each face having the set size. The face detection range is limited to provide a desired detection result according to the purpose more flexibly when power consumption and detection speed are given as requirements.
