PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a glass spacer for a flat display capable of manufacturing a glass spacer that is superior in dimensional accuracy and will not cause torsional deformation, and to provide the glass spacer for the flat display. SOLUTION: The inside of a furnace core tube 7 of a wire-drawing furnace 6, used for executing wire drawing, by heating and melting a glass base material 1 having a rectangular cross section, is brought into an atmosphere that contains not lower than 30% helium gas, and this glass spacer 10 for a flat display is manufactured by melting and drawing the glass base material 1.
