PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk player for properly adjusting the balance of a focus error signal even if when light reception of the photodetector of an optical pickup is largely imbalanced during balance adjustment of the focus error signal. SOLUTION: When an optical pickup positioned on a focus-on position, a system controller detects the levels of signals A to D output from a photodetector, and calculates the amount of imbalance of light reception of the photodetector based on the levels of the signals A to D. When imbalance of the light reception of the photodetector is detected, an offset initial value for balance adjustment of a focus error signal is changed based on the imbalance amount of the light reception of the photodetector, and the optical pickup is positioned on a track.
