PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission-illumination type meter, capable of easily viewing characters, or the like, on a dial throughout the hours during the daytime, nighttime and twilight. SOLUTION: The transmission-illumination type meter includes the dial 28 on which characters, numbers and scales are printed, a pointer provided turnably at the center of the dial 28 for indicating a scale, and a light source 38 provided behind the dial 28. The characters and numbers can be viewed, by illuminating the dial 28 from the back by light 39 from the light source 38, and a striped pattern, in which a transmitting part 35A for transmitting the light 39 from the light source 38 and a light-shielding part 35B for shielding the light 39 from the source 38 are repeated, is printed as characters and numbers.
