PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To close the ejection surface of a printer surely. SOLUTION: The printer comprises a liquid ejection head 3, a head cap 10 having a cap seal portion 21 and guide pins 26 and 27 and closing the ejection surface 6, a head case 11 having guide holes 33 and 34 for guiding the head cap 10 over the opposing position Y and the open position X, and a drive mechanism 12 having cam portions 69 and 70 for pushing up the guide pins 26 and 27. Vertical guide portions 37 and 40 for making the head cap 10 movable in the direction substantially perpendicular to the ejection surface 6 are formed in the guide holes 33 and 34 at the end of the reverse position Y side. When the ejection surface 6 is closed, the cam portions 69 and 70 push up the guide pins 26 and 27 along the vertical guide portions 37 and 40 so that the head cap 10 is pushed up to close the ejection surface 6.
