The apparatus has a retainer (14) provided for a fixed paraffin body (3), through which a yarn (10) runs, where the yarn is coated with paraffin wax. The retainer has a drive device (5) for the paraffin body and is fastened to a carrier (17) of a textile machine. A housing has a stop unit (15) for positioning the paraffin body, and the housing is detachably fastened at the carrier of the textile machine by a fastening device e.g. hook-and-loop fastener, magnetic fastener or adhesive fastener, that is operable and detachable by applying force directed perpendicular to the carrier.
