The invention relates to a medical apparatus including a device used in t he treatment of weight loss, obesity and potentially other associated health problems, e.g., type II diabetes. The device comprises a sleeve with an anc horing component attached thereto. The device is used to impede absorption o f nutrients within the gastrointestinal tract, i.e., bypassing a portion of the gastrointestinal tract. The medical apparatus further comprises a delive ry tube which enables implantation of the device using minimally invasive te chniques, such a transesophageal approach under visualization. During implan tation the sleeve is inverted and contained in a lumen of the delivery tube until deployment into the gastrointestinal tract. The device may be implante d via a working channel of a medical scope, e.g., an endoscope or in combina tion with a medical scope. |
