PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a commercially useful method for producing an optically active epoxy compound. SOLUTION: The method for producing the optically active epoxy compound includes adding a buffer agent or a buffer liquid to a reaction system when epoxidizing an unsaturated compound by an oxidizer (especially hydrogen peroxide) in the presence of an optically active titanium-salen complex catalyst and an optically active titanium-salan complex catalyst. As a result, such advantages that the decomposition of a catalyst can be suppressed, the amount of the used catalyst can be reduced, and by-products can be reduced, are achieved as compared to those in a conventional technique, and thus an optically active epoxy compound having high optical purity and good quality can be produced in high chemical yield.
