A bearing for a rolling mill roll comprises a sleeve 15 which is shrunk-fitted to the neck 13 of a roll barrel and a bush 20 cold shrunk within the bore of a roll chock 21. The bearing surface between the sleeve and the bush is formed by a white-metal layer in the bush 20. The surfaces of the sleeves are machined and the roll is supported thereon to facilitate the machining of the roll surface concentrically with the sleeves. A seal is formed at the end of the sleeves by a ring 25 which co-operates with a plate 28 and sealing rings 31 to 35 to prevent roll coolant entering the bearing or lubricant from passing on to the roll surface. |
