<p>A honeycomb filter comprised of a columnar honeycomb fired body having a multiplicity of cells aligned parallelly in the longitudinal direction with a cell wall interposed therebetween, either one end portion of each of the cells being sealed, which honeycomb filter allows a gas to flow therein from one end face side and allows the gas to flow out from the other end face side. In the honeycomb filter, no catalyst carrying layer is provided in a region of 10% of the whole length of the honeycomb filter from the gas outflow side end face, and a catalyst carrying layer is provided in a region of 25 to 90% of the whole length of the honeycomb filter within a region of 90% of the whole length of the honeycomb filter from the gas inflow side end face of the honeycomb filter. The thermal conductivity of the region not provided with catalyst carrying layer of the honeycomb filter is higher than the thermal conductivity of the region provided with catalyst carrying layer of the honeycomb filter. The mode value of pore diameter (a, µm) of the region not provided with catalyst carrying layer of the honeycomb filter and the mode value of pore diameter (b, µm) of the region provided with catalyst carrying layer of the honeycomb filter satisfy the relationships a-b=5 and 10=a=20.</p> |
