PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To convey a recording medium to a predetermined measurement position regardless of the kind of the recording medium when conveying the recording medium inside an identification device. SOLUTION: The recording medium identification device for identifying the kinds of a plurality of kinds of recording mediums different at least in width and guiding connection of connectors corresponding to the kinds and the recording mediums includes a recording medium conveying roller for conveying the recording medium in the direction of insertion of the recording medium, and a pressure roller being movable in the cross direction of the recording medium and adapted to push the recording medium toward the recording medium conveying roller. The recording medium is moved in the direction of insertion by the recording medium conveying roller while being pressed against the recording medium conveying roller by the pressure roller.
