PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an inexpensive oxygen-free copper material having a low softening temperature and a high electric conductivity, and to provide a copper material. SOLUTION: In the method for producing a copper material, a roughing rolled material of oxygen-free copper is subjected to cold area reduction working at a reduction of area of≥25%, and thereafter, the area-reduced material is subjected to heat treatment at 80 to 650°C for≥50 min.
