PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an environment-responsive flame retardant resin composition capable of imparting high flame retardance to resins in small amount, not impairing fundamental physical properties of resins, having no effect also on moldability or processability and not containing a halogen element and a phosphorus element. SOLUTION: The flame retardant resin composition comprises a polyester-based resin, a saccharide compound, an aromatic organic acid or its metal salt, an organosilicon compound and a stabilizer having hydrolytic resistance. The saccharide compound is at least either one of a saccharic acid compound, a monosaccharide, a disaccharide and a polysaccharide and the aromatic organic acid or its metal salt has either one of a hydroxy group, a carboxyl group and a sulfonic acid group and the organosilicon compound is at least either one selected from a siloxane compound and a silyl ester compound.
