PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce zinc oxide which is uniform in shape and size and has a shape having at least two circular surfaces, particularly, the shape similar to that of a disk. SOLUTION: A method for producing zinc oxide comprises the steps of: mixing a zinc compound with an amine compound in an aqueous solution; adjusting the pH of the resulting aqueous solution to≥7 to produce a precipitate; and heating the precipitate-produced aqueous solution to≥40°C. A carboxylic acid and/or its salt of the amount equivalent to 0.01-0.1 molar ratio of the carboxylic acid and/or its salt to the zinc atom of the zinc compound are mixed in the zinc compound.
