<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission optical fiber having an expanded effective area≥120μm<SP>2</SP>and an effective cut-off wavelength <1,600 nm without degradation of other optical characteristics of the optical fiber. <P>SOLUTION: The present invention relates to the transmission optical fiber comprising a central core having a radius r<SB>1</SB>≥5.5μm and a refractive index differenceΔn<SB>1</SB>≤5.0×10<SP>-3</SP>; an intermediate cladding having a radius r<SB>2</SB>and a refractive index differenceΔn<SB>2</SB>, the width r<SB>2</SB>-r<SB>1</SB>being >5μm; and a depressed cladding having a radius r<SB>3</SB>and a refractive index differenceΔn<SB>3</SB>≤-3.5×10<SP>-3</SP>, the width r<SB>3</SB>-r<SB>2</SB>being <5μm. The optical fiber has an effective area≥120μm<SP>2</SP>with a cut-off wavelength limited to 1,600 nm without degradation of other optical parameters of the optical fiber as compared with an SSMF, notably in terms of losses and dispersion. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
