PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing titanic acid nanosheets having a highly versatile moderate particle diameter and having excellent transparency, and a method for controlling the particle diameter of titanic acid nanosheets. SOLUTION: (1) The method for producing the titanic acid nanosheets includes a step of hydrothermally treating a titanic acid nanosheet dispersion undiluted solution obtained by hydrolyzing a titanium alkoxide and/or a titanium salt in the presence of amines and/or phosphoniums. There are also provided (2) the method for controlling the particle diameter of titanic acid nanosheets, (3) titanic acid nanosheets having an average particle diameter on a volume basis of 2-100 nm in a dispersion having a TiO<SB>2</SB>concentration of 1 mass%, and (4) a dispersion containing the titanic acid nanosheets.
