A multi-state valve 106 has a dropped object pass-through state (Fig. 2A) and a dropped object-catching state (Fig. 2B). The actuating object 300 is caught by the actuation of a compressed C-ring 218 (figure 3b) or compressible collet in the activated state. When the sleeve 206 moves in a downward direction to open the valve 106 (Fig. 2B), radial openings in the upper housing section 200 are exposed to place the valve 106 in an open state, a state in which fluid communication occurs between the central bore 208 of the valve 106 and the region that surrounds the valve 106. The valve sleeve 206 is connected to an additional isolating flapper valve 212. After the valve has been actuated to the open state, further downward pressure shears the connection between the mandrel 210 and valve sleeve 206 allowing the flapper 214 to pivot to its closed position. |
