Position measuring device

The position measuring device has a code (C) with a series of code units (C1, C2, C3) that are arranged one after another in a measuring direction (X). A scanning device (AE) has a detector device (D) with detector units (D1-D11) for reading the code units. The scanning device and the code are arranged movably relative to each other in the measuring direction. Multiple separating units (U1, U2) with complementary characteristics are inserted between the code units that are adjacent to one another, where the separating units exhibit same characteristics in a transition region.
