The invention relates to a method of forming an extended area article such as a door having a profiled form, from a core of foamed plastics material, by using a linear oscillatable blade with a cutting shape corresponding to the required profile, in such manner as to produce a combined cutting and scraping action on the core to produce the profiled form. The core is preferably made from a sheet of closed cell foamed plastics material such as polyurethane, polyester, acrylic or phenol. The article may be encapsulated by a layer of glass fibre material, wherein any skin that forms on the core material during its production is removed in order to obtain adequate penetration and adhesion of resin used to cure the glass fibre material and to bond the glass fibre material to the core. |
