A position sensing device for a traveling robot and a robot cleaner using the same are provided to prevent malfunction due to an interference ray by projecting light reflected from a front obstacle. A position sensing device for a traveling robot comprises a light emitting part(110), a light receiving part(120), and a distance measuring part. The light emitting part emits light by reducing a vertical emission angle and increasing a horizontal emission angle. The light receiving part images light reflected from an obstacle discharged from the light emitting part. The distance measuring part outputs a distance from the position of light imaged in the light receiving part to the obstacle. The light emitting part consists of a light emitting diode array(111) having plural light emitting diodes, and a slit(115) having a gap for reducing the vertical emission angle and increasing the horizontal emission angle.
