Multifilament superconductor and method for its manufacture

The method involves providing multiple superconductor filaments (7) respectively including powder metallurgical cores. The superconductor filaments and reinforcement filament (6) are arranged to a bundle. The bundle is enclosed with an outer casing (3), which is made of non superconducting metal or non super conducting alloy. The encased bundle is deformed by reducing cross section of the bundle for producing multifilaments. The deformed multifilaments are annealed with sufficient temperature and duration in such a manner superconducting phases are formed in the cores. An independent claim is also included for a multifilament superconductor with a core area.
