The invention relates to a vacuum brake booster and a method for operating a vacuum brake booster (1) of a vehicle brake system, comprising a housing (5) which is subdivided into at least one vacuum chamber (3) and at least one working chamber (2) by means of at least one movable partition (4). The vacuum chamber (3) is joined to a vacuum source via a vacuum connection (10) while a sensor unit is assigned to the vacuum chamber (3). The sensor unit (6) senses the pressure in the vacuum chamber (3) and feeds the same to an electronic control unit (11) which encompasses an evaluation unit for evaluating the pressures sensed in the vacuum chamber (3) and calculates the control point of the vacuum brake booster solely based on the pressure prevailing in the vacuum chamber (3). A plausibility check of the pressure value measured by the sensor unit (6) is performed in order to support the monitoring process of the entire system, potential defects of the sensor unit (6) or the vacuum brake booster (1) being determined during said plausibility check.
