A display apparatus and a controlling method thereof are provided to enhance charge rates by applying a vertical inversion operation and an overlap operation. A display apparatus includes a display panel(100) and a panel driver(500). The display panel includes plural pixels. The panel driver receives an original image signal corresponding to consecutive frame to be displayed for a unit time, forms interpolation image signals and non-image signals based on an original image signal corresponding to adjacent two frames, and applies the original image signal, the interpolation image signals, and the non-image signals to respective pixels during a display period of the frame.
