The sensor has a sensor chip (1) made of silicon for the selection of signal, which is generated at a sensitive substance by one or more target gases in a measuring gas (4). A sensitive substance consists of living cells (2), which activates a target gas. The sensitive substance is placed on the sensor chip. A signal processing unit is provided for evaluation of the signals. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a sensor.
