A mobile communication terminal and a method for searching a phone book database for phone numbers are provided to perform phone conversation immediately after inputting additive characters or numbers, without entry to an edition mode. A controller(10) automatically searches a phonebook database if a user inputs keys of a phone number and a search key at the searching time of phone number. A display unit(14) displays various messages including the search result on the LCD screen under control of the controller. A number selected from the search result is provided in a mode in which additive numbers or characters are inputted, without entry to an edition mode. In the mode, phone conversation is immediately started through a phone number added or changed by the user. The controller stores the current phone number in a phone book database. A memory unit(20) stores the phonebook database therein.
