A device and a method for inputting alphabets in a keypad are provided to improve input convenience by inputting a glossary with the small number of inputted keys in a shortcut input mode and reducing the number of inputted keys while inputting all alphabets by using the shortcut input mode and a full input mode at the same time. A keypad is equipped with a plurality of buttons including 1-10 numeric keys. The keypad includes a multiplication operator button including a multiplication mark in addition to the numeric buttons. A multiplication operator is recognized when the multiplication operator button is pressed. A square operator is recognized when the multiplication operator button is pressed twice.
