In a sheet-fed rotary printing press, a gripper device includes a gripper pad (4), a gripper, a plurality of projections (19;22), and a non-attaching layer (20,21). The gripper pad includes a first gripping surface (4a). The gripper includes a second gripping surface (16) and cooperates with the gripper pad to grip a sheet (12). The plurality of projections are formed at least on one of the first gripping surface and the second gripping surface. The non-attaching layer is formed at least on a region among the projections. A method of manufacturing the gripper device is also disclosed.
