<p>A method for forming a chromium diffusion portion and articles fabricated by using the same are provided to effectively protect components of a gas turbine engine from erosive and oxidative environment. A method for forming a chromium diffusion portion comprises the steps of forming a slurry having chromium and silicon, applying the slurry to the article, and heating the article to a sufficient temperature for a sufficient period of time to diffuse chromium and silicon into the article and to form a diffusion portion having silicon and a microstructure comprising alpha-chromium. The includes an activator and a carrier, the article has an initial thickness, the diffusion portion has a surface, and 25% depth of the diffusion portion, as measured from the surface, contains a chromium concentration greater than or equal to 50 wt % based upon a total weight of the 25% depth.</p> |
