<p>An image forming apparatus and method for adjusting a scanning speed are provided to scan an image according to resolution suitable for the characteristics of each image, and implement an improved scanning speed. An analyzing unit(140) analyzes image characteristics of each line of image data free-scanned through a scanning unit(110). A controller(150) controls the scanning unit to perform scanning by adjusting the scanning speed of each line according to the analyzed image characteristics. A display unit(120) displays the free-scanned image data on a screen. An input unit(130) set a main scan target region of the displayed image data. The controller controls the scanning unit to adjust the scanning speed of each line of the main scanning target region and perform scanning. The image characteristics refer to one of color characteristics and mono characteristics. When the lines of the image data have the mono characteristics, the controller controls the scanning unit to scan the lines with the mono characteristics at a higher speed than that of the lines with the color characteristics.</p> |
