A sewage treatment apparatus is provided to collect sludge by the atmosphere, remove floating matters presenting in water contained in the collected sludge by a vortex flow and a filtration unit, reduce installation cost by constructing the apparatus in a simple structure, and perform maintenance and repairing operations very advantageously by collecting the sludge without the consumption of power. In a sewage treatment apparatus for collecting and removing sludge accumulated on the bottom of a settling tank for treating sewage or wastewater, the sewage treatment apparatus comprises: a sludge collecting part including a sludge discharge pipe extending from a location in a lower part of the surface of water in the settling tank to a sludge accumulated location on the bottom of the settling tank, and a trough installed on an upper part of the sludge discharge pipe at a location under the surface of water such that water of the settling tank is not flown into the trough by a partition wall installed on the trough, the partition wall being higher than the surface of water; a connecting pipeline of which one end is connected to the trough, and of which the other end is connected to the inflow pipe of the floating matter filtration tank; and a floating matter filtration tank(200) which receives water discharged from the sludge collecting part, and filters floating matters contained in the water to collect the filtered floating matters, wherein the floating matter filtration tank includes a cylindrical outer drum(201) of which top and bottom parts are opened, and which has an inflow pipe(202) tangentially connected to a lower portion thereof, a cylindrical inner drum(203) of which top and bottom parts are opened, which is installed in the outer drum such that a space part(207) is formed between the inner and outer drums, and of which an upper end is lower than that of the outer drum, a closed part for closing a bottom part of the space part, a floating matter stopper(204) formed on an upper end portion of the inner drum, and a floating matter discharge pipe(205) located in the space part at a location lower than that of the upper end of the inner drum.
