A pressure member 22 is slidable in the forward end of an edge connector body 23 and, after insertion of a mating plug in the body 23, is moved rearwardly, causing contacts 39 to bow inwardly and exert force against the plug contacts. The plug may be either a printed circuit panel or an insulating wedge around which a flexible printed circuit is folded. Ribs 50 on the pressure member 22, which is of resilient plastics material, snap-fit in oversized grooves 51 in the body 23, the pressure member having parallel arrays of projecting fingers 52 which define contact-housing slots (53, Fig. 1, not shown). It is moved rearwardly by tightening of screws (56) which hold it to the body 23, or alternatively it is moved manually and secured by a snap lock (not shown). The contacts 39 each comprise a core of springy wires twisted together and surrounded by further springy wires twisted together in the opposite direction. They each have a radially-expanded part and are retained by offset rear parts 37 and by engagement of their forward ends 40 in notches in the pressure member 22. In a modification (Figs. 6-9, not shown), a pair of resilient sealing strips (93) lie in grooves in the pressure member and abut respective insulating bars (90) which traverse the forward end of the recess in the edge connector body (75), the seating strips being compressed on rearward movement of the pressure member. The contacts are inwardly-bowed, each comprising a single-wire which may be surrounded by a wire sheath or, alternatively, by a helically-wound wire.
