In a machine for stitching new tread and sidewall strips to a buffed used tyre, a headstock 3 carrying rotatable tyre support discs 8 and variable-pressure stitching rollers 25 is pivotable on a shaft 2 through 90 degrees to each side of the tread application position so that each tyre sidewall is substantially horizontal during application of the associated sidewall strip. The rollers 25 are moved transversely of the tyre by motor-driven arms 18 mounted on a bracket 15 adjustable relative to the headstock to accommodate different sized tyres. The amount of movement of the headstock 3 and of the arms 18 is determined by limit switches.
